The Columbia Way of Doing Business

Made for Mid-Missouri Weather

Columbia sees just about everything a house can take: summers that sit near 90 degrees with heavy humidity, winters that swing between thaw and freezing rain, and a spring storm season that brings hail, straight-line wind and the occasional tornado warning. We pick materials and methods with that in mind, from exterior caulks that stay flexible through the swings to gutter hangers that hold under a load of ice, so a repair still looks right a few seasons from now.

One Clear Price First

Before anyone opens a toolbox, you get a plain number based on photos or a short walk-through. There are no padded hours and no surprise charges on the way out the door. If the job turns out easier than it looked, the price goes down, and if we uncover something bigger behind a wall or under a sink, we stop and talk it over with you before going any further.

The Whole List, One Trip

Most people don't have one repair; they have eight small ones that have been waiting since spring. Hand us all of them. We show up with a stocked truck and work straight down the list, from the bathroom fan and the door that won't latch to the shelf you bought two years ago and the gutter that spills over the porch steps. Landlords between leases and families getting ready to sell find this saves the most time.

Local to Boone County

We work these same streets every week, from the brick houses off West Broadway to the new cul-de-sacs south of Nifong and the farm roads out toward Hallsville. We know how game-day traffic snarls Providence Road and how the August move-in rush fills every apartment lot near campus, so we schedule around it. And because we're local, we're easy to reach afterward if something needs another look.

Handyman Service Across Columbia, MO

Columbia sits in the middle of Missouri, halfway between Kansas City and St. Louis where I-70 meets US 63, a college town of about 126,000 people built over rolling, oak-covered hills that slope down toward the Missouri River bottoms. The city's housing tells its history in rings. Closest to downtown and the three campuses are the early neighborhoods: East Campus, Benton-Stephens, North Central and the West Broadway corridor and Old Southwest, filled with homes from the 1890s through the 1940s, many with plaster, wood windows and limestone foundations. Beyond them come the postwar ranches and split-levels of the 1950s through the 1980s, in areas like Green Meadows and the streets off West Boulevard and Rangeline. And since the 1990s the city has grown hard to the south and east, with large subdivisions such as Thornbrook, Old Hawthorne, Copperstone and Spring Creek, along with townhome rows and student apartment complexes that went up by the thousands. On any given day we might be re-hanging a door in a 1920s bungalow near Stephens Lake Park and then mounting a TV in a three-year-old house off Scott Boulevard.

Daily life runs along a few main lines: I-70 across the north, US 63 up the east side, and Providence Road, Stadium Boulevard and Broadway carrying traffic through the middle. Football Saturdays at Memorial Stadium change the whole map, and so does the August week when students return. The MKT Trail runs from Flat Branch Park downtown out to the Katy Trail near McBaine, and Stephens Lake Park, Cosmo Park and Rock Bridge Memorial State Park give the city its green edges.

What Columbia neighbors book most

Jobs we handle a lot in Columbia

A normal week in town covers a little of everything: plaster cracks and sticking doors in the old neighborhoods, rental turnovers near campus, ceiling fans for upstairs bedrooms that never cool off in July, gutters packed with oak leaves and sweetgum balls, fence repairs after a spring windstorm, and storage and shelving for garages in the newer subdivisions.

Questions we hear around Columbia

Do you cover all of Columbia?

Yes. That means the older neighborhoods around downtown and the campuses, the north side off Route B and Paris Road, the west side along Broadway, Stadium and Forum, and the south and east growth along Nifong, Grindstone, Scott Boulevard and Route WW. If you have a Columbia address, we've likely worked on your street or the next one over.

Can you work in a downtown apartment or student high-rise?

Yes. The newer downtown towers and large complexes usually want work scheduled through the leasing office, a certificate of insurance on file and quiet hours respected. Tell us the building's rules when you book and we'll handle the paperwork and plan the visit around them.

Do you work on game days?

We try not to schedule anything near Providence Road, Stadium Boulevard or College Avenue on home football Saturdays, because traffic and parking around campus make it hard on everyone. Elsewhere in town it's usually business as usual.
